My Model
"T" Ford ...by Alwaysbtrue2me
aka Pat
The first car I ever owned
Was a Ford, a model "T",
Bought in the year 1921
And I went courting, just Ida and me
There were only a few paved roads,
With dust in the summer, mud in the winter.
A hundred mile trip was a long way to go.
Being in love, we would go, rain or snow.
We crossed the Mississippi on the Missouri
And across the hot prairie of Kansas
Into that very beautiful state of Colorado.
Am sure the immigrants traveled this route also.
We drove up into the beautiful Rocky Mountains
To the high snow covered peaks.
Also saw many geysers that looked like fountains
To us this beauty was more than a treat.
There were no windows to rll up when it rained
And only a canvass covered the top.
Trying to keep dry was in vain
But getting real wet was our lot.
These times are pleasure memories
And am sure will never be forgotten.
Today it seems more like just a dream,
But I assure you, a dream it was not.
Thirty miles an hour was the average speed.
But Oh! how we stirred up the dust.
Five days was the time we did need
To arrive in Denver on the fifth day in the eve.
